The Eunuch Director Qian Neng, grand defender of Yun-nan, memorialized: "The acting Vice Commander Hou Yong and the Assistant Guard Commander Lu An of the Jin-chi Guard, not fearing danger or difficulty, soothed and repulsed (撫退) the yi troops of Gong-zhang and other places who had been engaged in feuding and killing. In addition, Lu and An have repeatedly obtained precious stones to offer in tribute. Their achievements have been truly outstanding. It is requested that consideration be given to promoting and rewarding them." The Ministry of War re-submitted the memorial and the Emperor approved the request. An was specially promoted to acting vice guard commander.
