At this time, there was an Imperial order appointing Sun Xu, a vice director of the left in the Directorate of the Imperial Horses, as grand defender of the regions of Jin-chi and Teng-chong in Yun-nan. The Ministry of Rites memorialized: "The grand coordinator and the regional inspector have successively proposed that the eunuch grand defender position in Teng-chong and so on should be abolished, but the proposals have not yet received an Imperial decision. Now the Eunuch Director Ji Qing has died of illness. If this order is now issued, there will certainly be doubts and concerns. It is requested that the Emperor abolish the post, so that no further harm comes to the regions." This was not approved.
