The Censor-in-chief Li You, grand coordinator of Guang-dong, memorialized: "Since the sixth month of the 45th year of the Jia-jing reign (June/July 1566), the pirates Lin Dao-qian and Liang You-chuan, who had gathered over 3,000 followers, has been sailing the ocean in large ships, coming and going in the areas of Lei-zhou and Qiong-zhou. The Regional Commander Tang Ke-kuan and others successively did battle with them and took over 300 heads as well as prisoners...."
