The Supreme Commander of Guang-dong/Guang-xi He Shi-jin reported in a memorial: "In recent times, the Hao-jing `bay yi' had strengthened their defences and acted wildly for a period. The civil and military officials adopted firm measures to provide defence against them. Now, the assistance provided by evil persons in the inner territory has been cut off and externally the yi have been awed and brought to submission. They are willing to dismantle the walls themselves and just leave one along the coast in order to guard against the 'red yi'." The memorial was sent to the Ministry of War.
