The Yun-nan Grand Coordinator Min Hong-xue memorialized noting: "Of the yi that bring calamities to Yun-nan, the worst of those outside are the Jiao and those of Dong-chuan...The Jiao, even though we are separated from them by the nine [native] offices, still harass yearly...In recent years, the Jiao people have been repeatedly defeated and they have temporarily drawn in their claws and beaks....."
