The Auxiliary Ministry of War memorialized: "The Jiao-zhi official Fang Zheng and others, serving in order to realize achievements, proceeded on expedition to eliminate Li Li. However, the An-ping Earl Li An, the Commissioners Yu Zan, Xie Feng, Xue Ju, Zhu Guang and Chen Feng drew back on the verge of battle and Zheng was soundly defeated." The Emperor ordered that they be leniently pardoned their offences. Imperial orders were sent to the Cheng-shan Marquis Wang Tong, regional commander of Jiao-zhi, requiring that An, as well as Zan, Feng, Ju, Guang and Feng carry their offences, that they be designated, together with Chen Zhi and so on, officials serving in order to realize achievements, and that they serve in the vanguard forces in order to realize these achievements. If they did not realize achievements, they were to be punished in accordance with military law.
