An envoy was sent to take Imperial orders of comfort and instruction to Dao Xian-da, the native-official pacification superintendent of the Laos Military and Civilian Pacification Superintendency. The orders read: "Formerly, when my Imperial grandfather, the Tai-zong Wen Emperor, was on the throne, you were able to respect and accord with the Way of Heaven, respectfully serve the Court and faithfully carry out your tribute duties. From beginning to end, you were loyal and the Court treated you with increasing generosity. I have respectfully taken on the Heavenly mandate, have ascended the throne and, in all matters of government, I am respecting the will of my Imperial forebears. Thus, I am especially sending the eunuch official Yang Lin with orders of instruction for you and am conferring upon you biao-li of variegated silks. You should strengthen your will to accord with Heaven and be greatly reverent and loyal so as to accord with my wishes."
