On this day, the Commander Xue Ju who had been despatched by the Ying-guo Duke Zhang Fu, regional commander of Jiao-zhi, pursued the bandit leader Ruan Shuai to Nan-ling Subprefecture and captured him there. Previously, spies had advised that Shuai had fled to the Siamese man (暹蠻). Fu thus sent the Vice Commissioner-in-chief Zhu Guang and others to lead troops in pursuing and capturing him. Guang sought the bandits in the bamboo groves on the various mountains around the Siamese Pass (暹人關), and captured all the family members of Shuai and of his followers Deng Rong and Chen Ji-kuo. Shuai and the others fled to Nan-ling Subprefecture and sought protection from the native official Ruan Cha-hui. At this time, Ju's boat-borne force attacked by surprise and captured them. Cha-hui was executed as a warning.
