Imperial orders were sent to the Xin-cheng Marquis Zhang Fu, "General for Subduing the Yi" and regional commander, and the Xi-ping Marquis Mu Sheng, deputy general of the left. The orders read: "I have been informed that the army has been involved in fighting with the bandits and that the bandits are planning to delay things until the miasmic vapours begin. You should break through quickly and not be delayed. You mu st destroy the bandit army by the second month of next year (Mar/Apr 1407)."
