The Guang-dong Regional Military Commission was Imperially ordered to select 600 crack troops, with two able battalion commanders and six able company commanders to lead them, supply them with equipment and armour as well as cured dried grain (糗粮) and have them proceed by sea to Champa. There, they were to join with the infantry and cavalry to guard against the flight of the Li bandits.
